Alongside critical dialogue, the residency can provides practical support, including guidance on artist statements, grant writing, and applications for residencies and other opportunities.
You’ll join a cohort of 10–12 artists to exchange ideas, resources, and sustained support, fostering connection and accountability throughout the program.
The residency includes two cohort-wide open studio sessions centered on thoughtful, constructive critique, as well as two studio visits with established artists—offering access to some of today’s most compelling voices and perspectives.
Catalyst is designed to strengthen your work, clarify your direction, and expand your creative network from wherever you live and work.

What you can expect from the one-on-one studio visits.
We start with a consultation to establish goals, both for for the work itself and your practice as a whole. Through a series of focused conversations built around your schedule, we will then help you capitalize on the tools you use everyday and help reveal skills you may yet to take advantage of. You will be encouraged to discuss your artistic practice, the ideas behind it, and the manner in which your studio techniques express those themes and inform your work. Ideally, you will often encounter questions whose answers are not immediately apparent. After two months of one-on-one studio visits, coupled with the cohort-wide Open Studio Sessions you'll have a deeper understanding of your own unique artistic voice and a discernible path towards continual growth in your practice.
Strength in numbers...
Early in the program we hold a cohort-wide open studio session over Zoom where each artist will formally meet their peers and introduce their work to the group, explain their process and share their goals. Participation in a cohort of fellow artists being a vital part of the residency, artists will be encouraged to connect independently with one another throughout the program. In addition to the five scheduled cohort-wide sessions, you will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, share studio techniques and discuss one another's work directly with your fellow artists. These peer-to-peer connections deepen creative inquiry, foster accountability, and expand perspectives beyond your individual practice. Building relationships within the cohort also offers the opportunity to develop a personal and professional network outside one’s local community, creating bonds that can provide lasting support, collaboration, and professional opportunities long after the residency has concluded.

An experience built around you.
This is not a workshop series where you will be taught someone else's signature studio techniques, although your arsenal of methods will certainly expand. Nor is it a "coaching program" where you'll be promised more online followers or gallery shows, although you will receive guidance on how to best take advantage of potential opportunities. This is a series of one-on-one exchanges centered around your work and your goals in your studio, whether it resides in an airy commercial space, a spare bedroom, or your kitchen table. And knowing that like your studio, your practice is unique, Catalyst will foster growth in your work in a manner that suits your schedule and pace of work. While some artists enjoy a full-time studio schedule, most must balance life, work and other responsibilities with their practice. All these things are taken into account throughout the residency to deliver an experience that is nurturing and stress-free while offering a community of fellow artists to buoy your artistic voyage for years to come.
